Protection so Queer kids can make their own decisions about their bodies, their futures, and who they want to be. Expansion of Safe Places to turn to for help when unsafe situations arise. Legal Name Change & Gender Designation Changes to Birth Certificates, Equal Marriage Protections, Non-Discrimination Policies & More.

My personal experience in life lead me to believe and know that Sexuality, Gender Identity, and Biological Sex are very different things. I know and understand that Sexuality and Gender Identity are not black and white, yes or no, cut and clear. They are both spectrums. Even biological sex is not Male and Female as we once thought. Science now proves there are 7 genetically distinct Biological Sexes:

  1. Male (XY): Normal Male

  2. Female (XX): Normal Female

  3. Klinefelter Syndrome (XXY): Males with an extra X chromosome, leading to underdeveloped testes, infertility, reduced testosterone, and sometimes learning or social difficulties.

  4. Turner Syndrome (X): Females missing all or part of one X chromosome, causing short stature, ovarian insufficiency, heart defects, and learning issues.

  5. Triple X Syndrome (XXX): Females with an extra X chromosome, often with mild or no symptoms, but sometimes learning delays or emotional challenges.

  6. Jacob's Syndrome (XYY): Males with an extra Y chromosome, associated with increased height, learning difficulties, and sometimes behavioral issues.

  7. XXYY Syndrome (XXYY): A rarer form of Klinefelter, with more pronounced features, including intellectual disability, infertility, and skeletal issues.

People who have these different biological sexes are still people and deserve the same legal protections as everyone else.

Sexuality is a spectrum and always been all through history. It’s only in modern history that we have labeled, othered, and shamed people for their sexual preferences. Many Ancient Cultures have MANY instances, fables, stories, and mythos of varied sexual preferences. I personally don’t understand why, as a society, we have become so binary. I truly don’t understand why we have become so quick to divide each other and put labels on everything that only serves to make us all feel other, different, separate… We are not that different from each other.

We need to put legal protections in place that grant 2 consenting adults the legal right to marriage, regardless of Gender Identity and Sexual Preference, and provides them with all the same protections and privileges granted to any married couple through the state of Ohio.

We need to put legal protections in place that grant any adult the full autonomy, including medically, to do with their body, as they see fit. This includes Gender Affirming Care.

Gender Affirming Care is not just for people in Transition by the way. Women going through Menopause can receive Hormone Replacement Therapy as a way to help decrease the severity of symptoms. Women can also receive Gender Affirming Care in the sense of having Breast Reconstruction Surgery after a Mastectomy (Breast Removal Surgery) that was needed to save the woman’s life from Breast Cancer. This is also Gender Affirming Care. Men who seek Hormone Replacement Therapy in order to boost their testosterone after decrease in that hormone due to age, is also Gender Affirming Care. Other examples of Gender Affirming Care are Hair Loss Treatments, Mental Heath Care, even getting a haircut or putting on a wig is considered Gender Affirming Care.

Gender Affirming Care should be protected for everyone and we should support each other in our decisions to do whatever we can to feel comfortable and at home in our bodies, especially as adults.

As for children who identify as non-binary or transgender, they should be allowed to voice their wants and needs to be outwardly recognized as the person they feel they are inside. Especially in the manner of allowing children to dress comfortably and expressively. Boy Clothes, Girls Clothes, gendered clothing is irrelevant. Kids should not be forced to wear one thing or barred from wearing another just because of gender norms. Children should be free to express themselves with long hair or short hair, choose to paint their finger nails or not to, where dresses or pants.

Once a child reaches a certain age, designated by a team of qualified health care professionals, that specialize in mental, emotional and physical health, children/teenagers, should get to make informed and educated decisions about their bodies, up to and including medically supervised and prescribed puberty blocking medications and therapies. Teenagers should be able to continue puberty blocking medications and therapies until they can be certain that a transition in gender from that assigned at birth is what they really want and need in order to feel like who they are on the inside matches who they are on the outside.

The worst thing we could do would be to ignore a child or teen in need of these, often times, life saving medications and therapies, and then lose another child to suicide. Personally, SO WHAT if a child/teenager doesn’t know if they want to transition to the opposite gender all the way? SO WHAT if a child/teenager isn’t ready to make a permanent decision like going through puberty? So puberty happens a year later, or even a few years later, but at least we kept the child alive and save because they knew the adults around them loved them, cared about them, listened to and heard them! It allows a child time to figure out who they are and who they want to be. Giving someone, anyone time to figure out who they want to be should be protected.
